A simulated traffic accident with a train was the focus of a large-scale exercise by the emergency services in the Perg district on Friday evening. The Schwertberg and Perg volunteer fire brigades, the Red Cross and the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) practiced the meticulously coordinated approach in an emergency. The ÖBB made one of their Cityjet sets available for the exercise, which was used for the exercise as a train accident scenario.

The rescue of several people, some of whom were seriously injured, from the car and the occupants of the regional train was particularly challenging for the emergency services. The people who were trapped in the vehicle were freed with hydraulic rescue equipment, whereby technical rescue methods also had to be taken into account. Hand in hand with the fire brigade, the Red Cross medical team took care of the injured, provided first aid, stabilized the injured and transported them to the surrounding hospitals.

The exercise was a perfect opportunity to strengthen communication and coordination between the emergency services. Optimizing this procedure further was also the subject of the joint debriefing
