As we enter the era of artificial intelligence and AI, development competition between countries is intensifying, right?
Recently, major US technology companies have announced large-scale investments in Japan.
After Microsoft announced earlier this month that it would invest 4 trillion won in Japan, Oracle also announced that it would invest 11 trillion won.
There are fears that Korea, an IT powerhouse, will lag behind Japan in the AI sector.
Correspondent Hyun Young-jun reports from Tokyo.

Last week, during Prime Minister Kishida’s state visit to the United States, Microsoft decided to invest $2.9 billion, or more than 4 trillion won, over two years in Japan to develop and exploit artificial intelligence.

“We would like to thank you very much for your new investment in Japan.”
Most of the investment will be used to expand data centers in Japan to improve AI performance and manage personal information.
Oracle, a market leader in enterprise cloud services, has also invested in Japan.
Starting this year and continuing over the next ten years, we will spend $8 billion, or 11 trillion won of our own money, on data centers in Tokyo and Osaka.
We plan to spare no expense to protect the personal information of our customers, Japanese companies, and to develop the infrastructure to respond to cyberattacks.

“Security is very important as we face a series of cyberattacks across the world, and 99.5% of us think it is still not enough. »
Previously, at the beginning of the year, the American Amazon decided to invest 22,000 billion won in Japan to develop its cloud services.
The reason why major US technology companies are increasing their investments in Japan is that the demand for large-scale language model learning and AI data servers is increasing as the Japanese enterprise AI market experiences explosive growth.
Japan has also started supporting the AI industry at the government level.
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry today decided to provide 700 billion won in subsidies to related companies for the domestic development of AI supercomputers.
The hallmark of generative AI is that no matter how good the software is, it is useless without powerful hardware.
In this sense, thanks to the investments of major American technology companies, Japan has acquired a solid foundation ahead of Korea in the field of AI.
