Lara Gut-Behrami’s Dominance: Breaking Down Her Latest Victory and World Cup Standings

2024-02-16 10:32:44

Lara Gut-Behrami is in the form of her life, the Ticino woman won her 7th success of the winter during the Crans-Montana descent. Switzerland even signs a double with Jasmine Flury’s tied 2nd place, Grisonne shares second place on the podium with Austrian Cornelia Hütter.

Who will be able to beat Lara Gut-Behrami? The question might not be more legitimate following the Ticino signed her 44th victory in the World Cup to come back two lengths behind Renate Götschl.

This 13th success in the discipline, “LGB” built it in the technical part and in particular in the passage of the Trou du Renard. Although she logically lost a little time in the sliding part, the skier from Comano finished her last two curves in the right way with a finish line raised by a few tens of meters.

Due to the high temperatures, the jury decided not to damage the final shoe and not to risk injury to the athletes. This is why the race was played under 1’20.

In the discipline rankings, Lara Gut-Behrami is 41 points behind Sofia Goggia who is resting following her tibia-fibula fracture suffered during training. The Ticino overtakes Stephanie Venier, only 10th. Overall, the 100 additional points allow the Luganaise to take a 105-point lead over Mikaela Shiffrin who should make her return to Are in March.

The Swiss team is smiling

For the record, this is the 2nd time during her career that Lara Gut-Behrami has had 4 successes. She had already experienced such a sequence in January and February 2021 when she won the 2 Super-Gs in Garmisch, then the 2 descents in Val di Fassa.

The numerous Swiss public present in the finish area were thrilled by Jasmine Flury. The downhill world champion had an excellent race to finish in 2nd place, 0”21 behind her leader. The podium is completed by Cornelia Hütter who also took 2nd place tied with Flury.

Also note the beautiful 7th place of Priska Nufer at 0”51 on a track that she loves and where she had gleaned her only success in the World Cup during the downhill in 2022. A little further on, Noémie Kolly from Friborg signed an encouraging 24th place and Micelle Gisin finished in 26th place.
