In order to find new active ingredients for medicines, researchers have to test an almost infinite number of different molecules for their effects on different cells. Drug discovery has long used computer programs to predict these properties of molecules so that they don’t all have to be tested individually in the lab. For example, it is regarding whether an active substance can cross the blood-brain barrier or whether it reacts to certain markers of the coronavirus.
