This morning, for the third consecutive day, we witnessed an intra-team game at the CH camp. Today, group #1 (the first trio along with Lane Hutson) faced off against group #3 (consisting of the veteran forwards and David Reinbacher).
Patrik Laine, who missed today’s training, is in group #2. Thus, he did not miss a game.
Clearly, these events often provide an opportunity for players to showcase their skills… and Lane Hutson understands this well.
While in his defensive zone, Hutson noticed Emil Heineman lurking near the opposing blue line… and he executed a brilliant pass to set him up for a breakaway.
You can see it at the end of this video captured by Stu Cowan.

The numerous fans present at the game in Brossard were truly impressed by the defender’s pass. You don’t often see a large crowd celebrating a great pass during an intra-squad game at training camp.
It’s clear that Hutson and Heineman share a good understanding on the ice. Later in the game, the defenseman made an impressive zone exit (with a pass that was not elevated this time) as he found Heineman.
A pass that was quite crisp, we gather.

That being said, it wasn’t only #48 who stood out today. The first trio in action also shone brightly.
The chemistry established last year among the three players is clearly still intact.

We also witnessed another trio excel during the game: Jake Evans, accompanied by Joel Armia and Brendan Gallagher. While these three forwards may not carry high expectations, we saw tangible chemistry among them again today.
This allowed them to shine in the offensive zone.…but also to create opportunities for David Reinbacher, who nearly scored after a great sequence from the trio.

For those interested, group #3 emerged victorious. Juraj Slafkovský nearly scored late to equalize…but he couldn’t finish the play.
As with any intra-squad game, one must take some positives while letting go of others…
But it’s certainly better to see the players excel than the opposite.
In brief
– Oliver Kapanen shines once again.
