Five people, including a five-year-old child, lost their lives in a landslide near Thodupuzha-Kudayathur Sangamam junction. Soman, mother Thankamma, wife Shiji, daughter Shima and Shima’s son Devanand, a native of Kudayathur, died. The landslide followed heavy rains since last night.
When Soman and his family were sleeping, Urul came suddenly. Rocks and huge trees swept the house. Only the floor of the house was left. By the time the locals came running after hearing a loud noise, the house was completely washed away.
The bodies were found below the house. Thangamma’s body was found first. Later, an hour-long search was carried out with earthmoving machines for the other four. All the bodies were found at half past ten. .The families next to this were shifted to the camp. The Collector has imposed a ban on night travel on the Thodupuzha Pulianmala road due to the risk of landslides.
