British racer Lando Norris admitted he was happy with his team McLaren’s performance in dominating the Hungarian Formula 1 Grand Prix at the Hungaroring Circuit, Budapest, Sunday (21/7).

In the 70-lap race, his teammate Oscar Piastri won the race after winning 2.141 seconds over him who was in second place.

Norris, who had been leading the race, slowed in the closing stages allowing Piastri to pass him on lap 68 and the Australian driver won his first F1 race.

“I’m happy for the team. I don’t know when the last one-two was, but it was probably more than 10 years ago or something,” Norris told the F1 website on Monday.

“Very happy, I am also happy for Oscar, I know he won in Qatar (in Sprint last year), but I think he would also say this is more than just a Sprint win,” he added.

Norris said the win was well deserved by Piastri after his teammate took his highest finish of the season as P2 in Monaco and Austria.

“His first win was well deserved, it’s a special moment, so I’m delighted for him and the whole team. A great weekend for all of us, yeah, very happy,” said Norris.

The 1-2 result in Hungary brought McLaren closer to the top of the constructor standings, Red Bull, with 338 points or a difference of 51 points.

Not only for McLaren, P2 in Hungary also brought Norris closer to Max Verstappen who leads the drivers’ standings.

Norris, who is in second place, now has 189 points, 76 points behind Verstappen who only finished P5 in Hungary. (Ant/P-5)
