Landings of marketed coastal and artisanal fishing products increased by 21% to 645,044 tonnes (T) during the first six months of this year, according to the National Fisheries Office (ONP).

The value of these landings exceeded 4.83 billion dirhams (MMDH), up 7% compared to the end of June 2021, specifies the ONP in its recent report on coastal and artisanal fishing statistics in Morocco.

By species, landings of crustaceans and pelagic fish showed respective increases of 32% to 4,117 T and 28% to 558,960 T.

On the other hand, landings of algae, shellfish and cephalopods fell by 60%, 50% and 8%.

Per port, a total of 10,039 T of coastal and artisanal fishing products were landed in Mediterranean port entries at the end of June 2022, down 13%. In terms of value, these ports recorded a decline of 17% to 331.8 million dirhams (MDH).

Conversely, landings at the ports located on the Atlantic increased, in weight, by 22% to 635,005 T. In value, these ports posted an increase of 9% to more than 4.5 billion dirhams. (With MAP)
