Land Norris “Driving the new generation F1 machine is not as fun as before”[F1-Gate.com]

McLaren F1 boss Lando Norris admits driving a new generation F1 car is no more fun than the previous generation.

Due to the new technical regulations introduced in F1 for the 2022 season, the car has shifted the aerodynamic concept to a ground effect car. Several F1 drivers have expressed their opinions about driving the new generation of F1 cars, with Esteban Ocon suggesting that racing is “not as fun” as previous cars. Lando Norris agrees.

“I hate driving the car compared to last year,” said Lando Norris.

“Those are different challenges. It’s not as fun as the cars of previous years in terms of how comfortable they are, how much you can hit the curbs, play on the lines, etc. It’s a bit more limited now.”

“It’s also a bit more restrictive in terms of set-up. Generally for us it’s just as low as possible, as hard as possible. If it’s too hard, then a little softer and so on.

“This is basically how we do it every weekend. In the previous years there was always a lot of adjusting and trying, always a different weekend with a different solution in the end.”

“This year it’s not so much. In a way we’re actually messing with the car set-up less. Trying to get that one good set-up is a bigger challenge.”

Asked if he believed things would improve in the next few years, Lando Norris said: “Unless there are big changes, we won’t know. I don’t know what those changes will be.”

“If anything, the more downforce you put on the car, the worse it gets. I don’t know, but hopefully the car will change and improve. The more downforce you have, the more you can follow on the track. gets worse.”

“Anyway, I think it’s how it works. Unless there are further implementations or changes that the FIA brings in to stop certain changes that were causing a lot of foul air.”
