Lamine Yamal will wear the number 19 next season, the same number that Leo Messi wore when he took his first steps with FC Barcelona in the EA Sports League of Spain.
He will thus wear the same number as he did at the last European Championship, where he was chosen as the Best Young Player of the competition and played a key role in the title won by the Spanish team.
The Catalan striker, who has just turned 17, will be a member of the first team next season, and will therefore abandon the number 27 shirt he wore last season, with which he scored seven goals in the fifty games he played under Xavi Hernández.
Other bearers of the number
Since the introduction of fixed numbers in the 1995-1996 season, the number 19 for the Blaugrana has had different owners, such as Lluís Carreras, Juan Antonio Pizzi, Patrick Kluivert, Dani Garcia Lara and Fernando Navarro.
It was also the number chosen by Messi when he made the jump to the first team, as he wore it between 2005 and 2008, before passing the baton to Maxwell, Martín Montoya, Ibrahim Afellay, Sandro Ramírez, Lucas Digne, Munir El Haddadi, Kevin-Prince Boateng and Carles Aleñá.
The Barça shirt with the number 19 has been worn by Martin Braithwaite, Matheus Fernandes, Sergio ‘Kun’ Agüero, Ferran Torres, Franck Kessie and Vitor Roque, who wore this number in the second half of last season.
