Lamborghini Squadra Corse and Iron Lynx have continued the development of the SC63 LMDh this week, completing a productive three-day test at the Almería Circuit in Spain.
The vehicle, which will make its competition debut at the first round of the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship season in Qatar next March, has been driven by factory drivers Andrea Caldarelli and Romain Grosjean, who has been able to complete his first turns.
Reliability and procedural tests were the main objectives carried out during the three days on the 4.2 kilometer circuit located in the Andalusian desert, southeast of Spain. Technicians from both Squadra Corse and Iron Lynx concentrated on the long runs, while the team continued their learning on the prototype.
A single chassis was used during the three days, meeting the pre-test objective of covering almost 2,000 kilometers. The test also gave Squadra Corse and Iron Lynx technicians the opportunity to simulate the Full Course Yellow situation and the related start strategies that typically characterize endurance racing, in preparation for the upcoming season.
The test also marked the debut of Romain Grosjean at the wheel of the SC63. The Swiss driver – who has participated in some endurance events in the WeatherTech IMSA Sports Car Championship with Iron Lynx this year – began his training during the first followingnoon, alternating with Caldarelli. The duo evenly split the mileage for the rest of the test.
Romain Grosjean: “It has been three very intense days, but I am very happy to have been able to work with the team and the car on the track for the first time. The vehicle has proven to be very good from the first laps and I am looking forward to putting in more kilometers in the next tests.”
“I have felt very good and I am happy to have been able to be in Almería with the entire team and thus meet all the people and discover the work that has been done behind the scenes. I’m very excited, the car has seemed very good to me from the beginning, but obviously we still have a little way to go [por delante]. The work that has been done before my arrival has been very good and I am looking forward to discovering more regarding the car.”
The testing program will continue in Europe next week. Subsequently, the Lamborghini Iron Lynx test team will travel to the United States to continue with the homologation process by IMSA (International Motor Sports Association) and carry out a series of tests on North American circuits.
