The Italian bull will swap thermal for electric, for the first time.

Lamborghini goes electric

Lamborghini to announce electric supercar concept on August 18 during Monterey Automotive Week. Ahead of the event, the Italian automaker released a teaser image on social media which, although it doesn’t reveal much, still retains that classic Lamborghini shape. And even though it’s just a concept, this vehicle will give us a first impression of what an electric car looks like for Lamborghini.

It has now been two years since the Italian automaker unveiled its electrification plans, which will take place in two distinct phases over the next decade. By the end of 2024, the company has announced that it will offer petrol-electric hybrid versions of its entire range. That means plug-in hybrid versions of the Revuelto, Huracán and Urus models will arrive over the next three years, along with limited-edition Sián roadsters. And by 2030, Lamborghini will unveil an all-new fourth all-electric model.

An electric car concept that will set the tone for the future!

The concept to be revealed later this week will likely offer clues to this mysterious fourth model. We already got a glimpse of Lamborghini’s first hybrid model, the Revuelto 2024, equipped with a 6.5-liter V12 engine and 813 horsepower, reinforced by three electric motors for a combined power of 1,015 horsepower (a unit of measurement of horsepower equivalent to 1,001 hp). This hybrid is intended to replace the Aventador in the Lamborghini lineup.

The Revuelto’s three electric motors, one at the rear and one at each front wheel, are powered by a 3.8kWh battery pack housed in the car’s center tunnel, which is small by standards electric vehicles, but which can still provide the Revuelto an all-electric range of up to 10 km, or 6.2 miles. An electric autonomy which is in the order of what Ferarri offers with its SF90 Stradale.

Like other sports car manufacturers, Lamborghini has been reluctant to embrace electric powertrains, fearful of alienating its loyal customers who seek loud V8 and V12 engines as well as impressive speed – that it is also possible to have with electric. The company has already been overtaken by newcomers such as Croatia’s Rimac, whose Nevera model can go from zero to 60 mph in less than two seconds.
