It used to be cheap, even when it was $100,000
this year’s Montereyauctionwas full of highlights, but there was a model that casually increased its popularity among them.that islamborghini・countachis.
The 1984 Lamborghini Countach LP5000 S at the RM Sotheby’s Monterey auction was the car that fetched a much higher price than expected.
Here, I tried to verify the reason why the bid was made at a high price.
Even if you say Countach in a word, the evaluation value for each model changes greatly.
The LP400, the earliest model, was a rarity with only 152 units produced and the pure styling of the original design.
Over fenders, spoilers, and aero parts were added to the models following the LP400 with each minor change, making them easier to handle and more aggressive with each passing year.
237 units of the 400 S, 321 units of the 5000 S, 610 units of the 5000 S QV, and 657 units of the 25th anniversary were produced. Although it is not a limited car, only 1977 units were made in total.
Prior to the auction bubble of 2014, even QV and Anniversary items were unpopular and might be sold for less than $100,000. In recent years, it has been trading at a realistic amount of around $200,000 to $300,000.
The 400 S and 5000 S, which were produced in small numbers, were priced at $280,000 to $450,000, slightly higher than the QV and Anniversary models.
What was the point of high bid?
The Countach exhibited this time is the LP5000 S made in 1984. After being delivered to Switzerland as a new car, it moved to England in 2009 following going through three owners. After that, he has a history of sleeping.
The most distinctive feature is the combination of white body color and white interior, which was rare at the time when red was the mainstream color. One of the reasons why this coordination was matched with modern tastes was that it was sold at such a high price.
The second point is the European specification of the original design.
This is because the American-spec Countach was equipped with a rugged and large bumper due to safety standards, spoiling the styling.
It’s been 38 years since its birth, but only 5495km is engraved on the odometer. This is another big point. It is also supported by the fact that perfect maintenance is given at the time of exhibition.
