Lamborghini breaks records in 2021 thanks to its Urus SUV

Italian sports car maker Lamborghini has been riding the SUV wave. Even though the automotive market is at half mast, buyers continue to favor this type of vehicle, including the most luxurious models.

The brand with the bull thus announced to have achieved last year the best sales in its history, with 8,405 cars delivered in the world, that is to say an increase of 13% in 2021 compared to the previous year. The Urus SUV (from 210,000 euros) carried sales with 5,021 units sold, ahead of the sports cars Huracán (2,586) and Aventador (798).

The United States remained the leading market, with 2,472 cars delivered (+ 11%), followed by China (935 cars, + 55%) which overtook Germany, now in third place with 706 units (+ 16%).

Lamborghini towards all-electric

However, this dynamic should not stop for the brand belonging to Volkswagen. “The new year opens with equally positive prospects, thanks to a solid order book which will cover almost all of the production planned for 2022”, specifies the manufacturer.

In addition, four new models will be unveiled over the next twelve months. “In 2022, we will do everything to consolidate our results and prepare for the arrival of our future hybrid range from 2023,” said Lamborghini CEO, German Stephan Winkelmann.

The prestigious brand presented in May “its roadmap towards electrification” of its models. This ambitious plan will require an investment of more than 1.5 billion euros over four years. In 2023, Lamborghini will launch its first hybrid series model and, “by the end of 2024, the entire range will be electrified,” confirmed the manufacturer. The first fully electric Lamborghini is slated for the “second half of the decade”.
