The Baltimore Ravens and Lamar Jackson discussed a contract extension during the offseason. However, according to Ian Rapoport, this is “not imminent”.
Jackson told reporters on Wednesday that he and the team are still discussing a contract extension and that Friday is the deadline to reach an agreement. The Ravens open their season Sunday once morest the New York Jets.
According to Rapoport, Jackson is seeking a fully guaranteed contract, similar to Deshaun Watson’s $230 million fully guaranteed contract.
Russell Wilson recently received a contract extension. He signed a five-year, $245 million deal with $161 million guaranteed. Wilson’s contract will not help Jackson in his negotiations due to the small amount guaranteed.
Jackson is in the last year of his rookie contract. He will earn $23 million this season following earning just $9.4 million in his first four seasons combined.
The 25-year-old missed the last four games of last season due to an ankle injury. He has made a full recovery and will start in Week 1 once morest the Jets.
