Trailing for almost the entire match, the Lakers pulled away in money time to beat the Suns with a very good Kevin Durant (38 points). LeBron James (32 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists) once once more showed the way to guide his team to victory.
For the full stats of this match, it’s here.
Kevin Durant and LeBron James facing each other is always the guarantee of a hell of a show and tonight’s match was no exception. The two superstars shone in this gala match and it was ultimately LBJ who snatched the victory following a fairly incredible scenario.
We say incredible because the Lakers had everything… to lose this match. Despite a change in his starting five (Austin Reaves on the bench), Darvin Ham once more deplored a catastrophic start from his team but it’s a bit of a tradition this season (7th game out of 9 where LA is down by ten points from the first quarter). To make matters worse, a very rusty Anthony Davis and above all an inability to preserve their defensive rebounds. The Suns gorged themselves all evening to accumulate second chances and easy points.
Despite all this, the Lakers were never completely sunk by Phoenix. LeBron James has been treading water for a long time to keep his people close. We had to wait for the start of money time to see LA go up a notch. LeBron James and a few valiant soldiers (Reddish, Reaves, Hachimura, Wood) will bring down lightning on Phoenix with 3-pointers to turn the game around. The Cactus then take a big run in the gums and lose momentum.
If Kevin Durant pulls out his big number to keep the Suns in touch, the Lakers respond tit for tat. LeBron James releases some big, important shots and makes his teammates shine with his shifts, notably Cam Reddish in X-factor mode (17 points and good defense) author of a huge shot at the end of the match to validate a victory which will do a lot of good in the minds of the Angelinos. The road trip ends on a good note, now the Lakers are coming home.
