Laila Murad drives “Tuk Tok”? A picture inflames communication

Over the past few days, social media has invaded a picture showing the late Egyptian singer Laila Mourad driving a tuk-tuk made in Egypt in 1940.

In the black and white picture, 3 women appeared, one of whom appears to be driving a “tuk-tuk”, while its publishers confirmed that the late Egyptian singer is driving the car, according to AFP.

However, the research showed that this claim is not true at all, as the photo was taken in Italy in 1952 and has nothing to do with the Egyptian singer.

Rather, it was published on the Getty Images website on April 18, 1952, showing two women riding in a two-passenger taxi, known at the time as Piaggio taxi-scooter, in Milan, Italy, on April 18, 1952.

It is noteworthy that the photo garnered more than 14,000 shares from the page that it published on Facebook and Twitter.

Egyptian singer and actress Lily Mordechai, better known as Leila Murad (1918-1995), is the sister of composer and actor Mounir Murad and daughter of composer Zaki Murad.
