Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe8He was assassinated on the streets of Nara City while campaigning for the election, sparking an international uproar. Lai Qingde went to Japan to offer condolences.12He paid his respects at the family festival at the Zenjoji Temple in Tokyo. Jin Meiling, a former national policy adviser who has been in friendship with Abe for decades, said in an interview that Lai Qingde might not be able to enter the funeral if he had not met at the door on the day of the funeral. As for the absence of Xie Changting, the representative to Japan, because of another schedule, Jin Meiling criticized it as “funny”.
Jin Meiling said that she had learned the day before that Lai Qingde would go to mourn, but the two did not meet at the door until that day. She said that she had a good relationship with Secretary Abe, but because of the crowds at the scene, Lai Qingde was likely to have “no one brought in”. Fortunately, when she met, she asked someone to coordinate the seat for him.
Jin Meiling expressed her disapproval of Xie Changting’s absence that day. “I asked Lai what happened to Xie Changting, and he told me otherwise.appointmentIn this way, I will say that this is very funny. If you don’t come to such an important occasion, you can cancel the trip in Japan or elsewhere. He (pointing to thanks) is afraid that no one will welcome him and he will lose face.”
After the ceremony, Jin Meiling introduced Abe’s wife to Lai Qingde and the Japanese dignitaries at the venue. Unexpectedly, when the politicians handed over their business cards, Lai was unable to exchange them because he did not bring them.
“When Taiwanese do things, sometimes they just say they didn’t expect to meet someone, or something,” Jin Meiling recited a few more words.
