What is the incident and what do the police have to say?

A few days ago, the news of the alleged rape of a female student of a private college in Lahore by a security guard of the college went viral on social media, after which the police started their operation. Meanwhile, students of the college protested outside the college on Monday and some students were injured in the crowd by the security personnel.

In this regard, a video statement of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Defense Syeda Shahrbanu Naqvi was played on the official social media on Monday, while Punjab Police also played a statement of Shahrbanu Naqvi on its X account.

In this statement, ASP Shahrbanu Naqvi said: ‘The unfortunate situation in Lahore was due to disinformation. We heard that a student of a private college who was allegedly sexually assaulted was taken to a private hospital.’

He added: ‘We checked the records of this private hospital. This revealed that none of the raped girls were admitted to this hospital.’

He said in the statement: ‘Interestingly, the private hospital that is being named does not deal with medico-legal cases, but even in the emergency department of that hospital, no such case was dealt with. After checking all the destinations of this hospital, it has come to light that the alleged victim did not go to this private hospital.

Similarly, he said in another video statement that ‘if anyone has evidence of abuse, bring it forward, he appealed that people should not abuse anyone on false news.’

The spokesman of the Punjab Police also said in a statement issued on Tuesday that if any citizen has any information regarding the alleged incident, inform the Virtual Women Police Station.
