Lahore High Court judge excused from hearing on petition against Election Amendment Act – Pakistan

Justice Sultan Tanveer Ahmed of Lahore High Court excused himself from the hearing on the petition filed against the Election Amendment Act 2024, while the judge directed to send the case file to Acting Chief Justice Lahore High Court.

Lahore High Court Justice Sultan Tanveer Ahmed heard the petition of citizen Muneer Ahmed against the Election Amendment Act 2024. Advocate Azhar Siddique appeared in the court on behalf of the petitioner.

Justice Sultan Tanveer Ahmad remarked that the present application is related to the interpretation of the judgment of the Supreme Court, I am not available on the principal seat of the Lahore High Court.

Justice Sultan Tanveer Ahmed excused himself from hearing the case and said that he is sending the case file to Acting Chief Justice Lahore High Court.

Another application filed in Lahore High Court against Election Amendment Act 2024

It should be remembered that on August 12, another petition was filed in the Lahore High Court against the Election Amendment Act 2024, in which the federal government, the Election Commission and various political parties were made parties.

It was argued in the petition that the Act sought to nullify the decision of the Supreme Court on specific seats, the Election Amendment Act, 2024 cannot be applied retroactively.
