According to CTO Amara Athar, Chief of Lahore Traffic Police, on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Lahore Traffic Police has started a public communication campaign to eliminate smog and has also provided a WhatsApp number on the official website.
“Environment-friendly citizens can send photos and videos of vehicles emitting smoke on this number and legal action will be taken against the polluting vehicles and their owners in view of the photos and videos sent.”
He said that not only this, certificates of appreciation will also be issued to the citizens who have played their role for the elimination of smog.

Speaking to Independent Urdu, Lahore Traffic Police Spokesman Arif Rana said: ‘Lahore Traffic Police is in constant contact with the Environment Protection Department of Punjab and some of our joint teams have also been formed in this regard.’
He said: ‘Through WhatsApp number we have received 19 videos from different places which have been sent to the Safe City Authority from where the vehicles are being identified and e-challans are being issued to the homes of the vehicle owners. I am being sent.’
According to him, teams of Lahore Traffic Police are working on the same in the office of Safe City Authority for the same purpose. A fine of Rs 2,000 is being imposed on each smoke-emitting vehicle.
On the instructions of Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, Director General (DG) Environment Punjab Imran Hamid Shaikh also proposed amendments to the Environment Act.
DG Environment Punjab Imran Hamid Sheikh while talking to Independent Urdu said: ‘We started taking all possible measures to prevent smog from March this year.’
