The rains in Attica on Saturday

The following map shows the total amount of rain until 16:40 on Saturday in Attica, as produced by the measurements of 70 stations of the meteo.gr network of the National Observatory of Athens.
The highest amounts of rain occurred in the west and south, with the highest amount at 20 millimeters in Kallithea (Harokopio). The rains continue in Western Attica.

The Emergency Weather Deterioration Bulletin issued on 29-08-2024/ 1200 (local time) is updated according to the latest forecast data.

Cold and unstable air masses in the upper atmosphere will remain over our country until today Saturday (31-08-24) in places affecting most of the central and southern mainland with heavy rain and thunderstorms, which will be accompanied by a large frequency of lightning and localized hail. Temporarily the phenomena will be accompanied by very strong winds (burinia).

Strong rains and storms are forecast today Saturday (31-08-24):

1. Until late afternoon in Peloponnese and Sterea (including Attica, mainly in the west, central and south of the prefecture). It is pointed out that the rapidity of the phenomena at the local level will be great, especially in the Peloponnese.

2. Temporarily in the Sporades, Evia and locally in Thessaly (mainly in the east).

Weather: Floods and roads rivers in Attica

Recommendations have been issued again by the Civil Protection in order for the citizens to be particularly careful, ensuring that self-protection measures are taken against risks arising from the manifestation of intense weather phenomena.

As it became known from the Fire Department, the Operations Center of the Fire Department has received today, so far, a limited number of calls for Attica, mainly for pumping water in Nea Smyrni, Kallithea and Moschato.

At the same time, early in the afternoon a message via 112 was sent to residents of the Peloponnese regions warning them of rains and storms, strong in some places from noon until the early evening hours and calling on them to be careful in their movements during the phenomena. In particular, the message states: “In the Peloponnese from midday until the early evening there will be rains and strong storms in places. Be careful when traveling during the phenomena. Follow the instructions of the authorities.”
