Yesterday, Wednesday, at the headquarters of the Casablanca-Settat region, the Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, chaired an expanded meeting devoted to studying the progress of Casablanca’s preparations for organizing the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

This meeting, which was attended by the President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Fouzi Lekjaa, and the Wali of the Casablanca-Settat region, Governor of Casablanca, Mohamed M’Hedia, included various stakeholders concerned with these preparations.

In this context, the spotlight was on the development and infrastructure projects that aim to enable the city of Casablanca to be ready for this global football event, in accordance with the requirements of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), with a focus on sports infrastructure: stadiums and training sites, transportation and mobility, accommodation, and sustainable development.

The mechanisms for the integrated management of the projects programmed within the framework of the preparations were also presented, in order to enhance the monitoring, control and implementation of the projects. In a speech during this meeting, Mr. Laftit stressed the need to mobilize all stakeholders to accelerate the implementation of projects and sites so that they are ready within the specified deadlines, highlighting in this regard the importance of closely monitoring the progress of projects at all levels.

On the other hand, the Minister of the Interior called on the various stakeholders to unify and coordinate their efforts, as well as to fully engage in the implementation of this project in accordance with the high directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. This meeting was also an opportunity to emphasize the uniqueness of the city of Casablanca, as it will host two important facilities, namely the Grand Stadium of Benslimane, the Mohammed V Sports Complex, in addition to the International Broadcasting Center (IBC), which will broadcast the matches.

In a statement to the press on the sidelines of this meeting, Mr. Lekjaa stressed that “this meeting is part of a series of meetings that include all stakeholders, and which aim to closely monitor the implementation of projects, according to a specific agenda that binds us all, in preparation for a number of events organized in Morocco starting next year.” After pointing out that there are a number of development projects underway in all areas, Mr. Lekjaa stressed that “Moroccans will remain, as they have always been, mobilized behind His Majesty the King, in order to give a true image of our country.”

Speaking regarding the large stadium to be built in Benslimane with a capacity of 115,000 spectators, he explained that this stadium will be “exceptional by all standards and will be the largest and best football landmark in the world, and will add another radiance to the cultural radiance that the Kingdom abounds with.” The meeting in Casablanca comes two months following an expanded meeting was held in Rabat as part of the intensive preparations for organizing the 2030 World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal. A similar meeting was held yesterday, Tuesday, in Fez.
