The admission of weakness made by Frédéric Francis, professor of entomology at the agronomic faculty of Gembloux, is without appeal. However, it only concerns a small critter whose European variety is decked out with the nickname “God’s beast”, in other words the ladybug. Except that the species mentioned by the scientist has been considered invasive for several years. This Asian ladybug has almost completely wiped off the map the European ladybug, the red one with black spots.
In a few weeks, with the approach of autumn, the presence of the Asian ladybug is likely to become more pressing. “As soon as the temperatures drop,” explains Professor Francis, “they will gather by the thousands to form clusters on the walls of houses facing south. They will also try to get inside to seek warmth for the winter. »
