LADY Gaga feels grateful for her current life condition.
“I’m in a new place,” the 38-year-old actress and musician tells PEOPLE, as she debuts her new film Joker: Folie à Deux and its companion album, Harlequin.
“I have been in the music industry since I was a teenager. “I’ve worked in the film industry for about 10 years,” Gaga said. “You know, I think I’ve been through a lot.”

Chart-topping hit music, bold fashion, and numerous accolades (including an Oscar nomination for acting and a Best Original Song win for “Shallow” from A Star Is Born in 2018) haven’t come without personal and professional challenges, some of which she shares in her 2017 documentary, Gaga: Five Foot Two.
“I feel very grateful for the career I’ve had,” the singer tells PEOPLE. “I feel very grateful for my fans. Plus, I think I had a lot of trouble at one point.”
He added, “I feel much better now, and it’s nice to be able to say that. I feel very grateful to be able to say that.”

Gaga plays Harleen “Lee” Quinzel, aka Harley Quinn, in Joker: Folie à Deux, the sequel to the 2019 hit film that introduced Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck, aka the Joker.
Written and re-directed by Todd Phillips, the sequel is a musical featuring Gaga and Phoenix performing fantastic versions of famous songs. During the film’s premiere at the Venice Film Festival on September 4, it received an 11-minute standing ovation.
When asked why the female DC Comics villain was the next step in her career, Gaga smiled and said, “I really wanted to do something that I’ve never done before.” (People/Z-3)
