That AvtoVAZ will release its own crossover, they say for a long time. Lada Xray in the current performance is not suitable for this role. Representatives of the AvtoVAZ company also spoke about the imminent appearance of the crossover. At the same time, they noted that such a car will replenish the model range over the next few years after the transfer of all Ladas to the CMF-B platform is completed.
Representatives of AvtoVAZ do not disclose any details about their new product. The only thing that is known for sure now is that the future crossover will belong to the class of budget cars. Most likely, the Russian novelty will be compact. That is, we should not expect the appearance of a 7-seater crossover in the Lada lineup yet.

Despite the foregoing, the appearance of the future novelty can be judged immediately. The domestic designer has recreated the look of the first crossover of the Lada brand by publishing a series of renderings. According to the author’s idea, the future novelty will be created on the basis of the 4×4 Vision concept, which debuted several years ago. This means that Lada Cross 2022 will retain the characteristic X-shaped stampings on the side of the body. Earlier, a number of experts suggested that AvtoVAZ would abandon such a car design in the coming years. This statement is supported by the recent reshuffle in the design department of the Volga Automobile Plant and the departure of Steve Mattin, who developed the style of modern Lada.
The presented crossover borrowed the characteristic head optics from the 4×4 Vision concept, the LED strips of which form the letter “X”. Also, the novelty took a large radiator grille from the prototype, along the perimeter of which there is a metal edging, and deep cutouts in the front bumper, designed to blow the brakes.
However, despite the pronounced similarity with the concept, Lada Cross 2022 has a number of features. So, the car was replenished with a wide metal protection, fixed under the central air intake in the front bumper. The roofline of the novelty has a more pronounced curve, giving the car a sporty look.
At the stern of the presented crossover, the original optics are installed in general for the Lada lineup. At the same time, the design of the rear of the body echoes the Xray style.
The technical part of the new Lada crossover raises certain questions. In many ways, they are due to the fact that AvtoVAZ, judging by recent statements, has not yet decided on the type of engines that future models will receive. A few months ago, sources close to the Volga Automobile Plant reported that Renault Clio was being tested at the enterprise. At the same time, information appeared that AvtoVAZ plans to adapt the engines of the French model for Lada.
Concept Lada 4×4 Vision
That is, the future crossover of the Volga Automobile Plant can receive a liter turbo engine developing up to 100 hp, or a 130-horsepower 1.3-liter supercharged unit. It is possible that AvtoVAZ will equip its novelty with a 1.5-liter turbodiesel engine, which, depending on the version, produces up to 85 or 115 hp. That being said, the hybrid setup that the Clio uses is unlikely.
Another option for the development of Lada Cross 2022 is also possible. Some time ago, the media reported that AvtoVAZ was considering adapting the current engine range to the CMF-B platform. If this happens, then the new Lada crossover will be equipped with 1.6 and 1.8 liter engines. The first produces up to 106 hp, the second – up to 122 hp. In addition to them, the Lada crossover can get a Nissan 1.6-liter engine with a return of 113 hp.
