Lactic ferments, our friends for life

The passage of time can alter the composition of the intestinal microbiota, itself essential for maintaining good health. But sudden upheavals (bariatric interventions, etc.) are a real upheaval of the intestinal flora. Here too, lactic ferments are powerful allies.

Everyone knows that intestinal flora is composed of bacteria, viruses and fungi. This microbiota is a large population, of the order of 1012 to 1014 microorganisms, and it is specific to each individual. Of course, fluctuations in the composition of this flora are frequently observed. They can be very slow and over the lifespan (we do not have the same microbiota at 20 years old as at 60 years old), or more rapid, even brutal, depending on our diet (beneficial or unbalancing), our stress, taking certain medications, surgical operations, etc.

The flora can then decrease in number or diversity, and in this case, our intestine will have more difficulty adapting to the demands it receives. Not to mention the repercussions on other facets: should we remember that the quality of transit or the effectiveness of immunity are subject to the balance of the intestinal flora? Regularly, therefore, we find ourselves in a situation where taking food supplements allowing a restoration of the microbiota is profitable.

A popular synergy

Among these, we can cite the Nocolitmade up of a synergy of saprophytic bacteria [se nourrissant de déchets, NDLR] and fennel. We find there Lactococcus lactis, a bacteria capable of transforming lactose into lactic acid, improving the quality of digestion of dairy products, and thus lowering the pH in the intestine, which displeases pathogenic bacteria. This last effect will be supported by the presence of Lactobacillus casei which limits the growth of pathogenic bacteria, and which also reduces intestinal inflammation and modulates immunity. We can also report the presence of Lactobacillus rhamnosuswith multiple virtues: adhesion to the intestinal wall, hydrolysis of lactose, fight against Candida albicans, stimulation of immunity and reduction of the risk of diarrhea when taking antibiotics. The fourth accomplice is the Bifidobacterium longumknown to facilitate digestion, reduce inflammation, improve transit and strengthen immunity, and also for its ability to synthesize B group vitamins and stimulate calcium absorption.

The presence of fennel perfectly completes the formula since it is a carminative plant, that is to say capable, in supporting digestive functions, reducing the production of intestinal gases and facilitating their evacuation. This synergy attracts the support of certain hospital services, such as University of Montpellier where Professor Nocca, head of the Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery team, offers it to his patients post-obesity or bariatric surgery (sleeve and gastric bypass).
