PARIS (AP) — Nice striker Gaëtan Laborde scored in a win once morest his former team on Saturday to cost Rennes some much-needed points in the race for one of the European spots in the French league.
With four games to go, the 2-1 defeat left Rennes in sixth place, three points behind Lille who later face Reims. Fifth place qualifies for the Conference League playoff.
Laborde, who joined Nice last year from Rennes, opened the scoring following 50 minutes. Terem Moffi capitalized on an Arthur Theate error to extend the lead to two goals with less than 30 minutes remaining.
Benjamin Bourigeaud’s goal in the 78th minute was not enough to prevent Rennes’ 12th loss of the season.
Marseille, which is second, visits Lens later. Marseille is only one point ahead of Lens for the second automatic ticket to the Champions League.
