AMD is renewing its Ryzen HS series processors for 2023, which are designed to equip portable PCs in compact or hybrid format without making big compromises in performance, unlike U series processors. It is therefore possible to find Ryzen HS in the Blade 14 from Razer or the Zephyrus G14 from Asus, both 14-inch gaming laptops, a real little ball of nerves. The Taiwanese manufacturer also uses it in hybrid formats such as the Flow range or more affordable laptops from the TUF range.
The Blade Razer 14 2023 is particularly thin.

As a reminder, the Ryzen 9 7940 HS has 8 multi-threaded Zen4 cores engraved in 4 nm equipped with 24 MB of L2 cache and can reach up to 5.2 GHz. A Ryzen 7 7840 HS and a Ryzen 5 7640 HS complete the range with frequencies revised downwards for the Ryzen 7 and two cores less for the Ryzen 5. The strong point of this range comes from the power envelope which is between 35 and 54 watts depending on the configuration chosen by the integrators.
The Razer Blade 14 therefore includes a Ryzen 9 7940HS accompanied by 16 GB of DDR5 and a 1 TB SSD, but it is unfortunately not available for sale in France. It will therefore be necessary to turn to machines from Asus, which are at the time of writing the only ones available in Ryzen 9 7940HS.

Installed in the Razer Blade 14, the Ryzen 9 7940HS does slightly better than the Samsung Book3 Ultra’s Core i9-13900H on our performance index. Remember, however, that the Core i9 has 20 threads against 16 for the Ryzen 9.
The generational gain is not transcendent, with only 10% more performance compared to the Ryzen 9 6900HS of the Corsair Voyager a1600.

Unsurprisingly, in the majority of our application tests, the Ryzen 9 7940HS of the Razer Blade 14 is always ahead of the Core i9-13900H of the Samsung Book3 Ultra, except for Premiere, where the Intel processor is the fastest to complete its rendered. The two HX series processors from Intel and AMD from the desktop versions are obviously far ahead with almost double the heart and a much higher power envelope.

In terms of operating frequencies, the Ryzen 9 7940HS averages 3.86 GHz with a 5 GHz boost while the Core i9-13900H sees its P-Cores reach an average of 3.09 GHz and 2.39 GHz. for E-Cores with respective boosts of 4.88 GHz and 3.84 GHz.

On the consumption side, the Ryzen 9 7940HS is the most economical with 39.5 watts on average during our encoding and a maximum consumption of 59.8 watts. The Intel Core i9-13900H is more energy-intensive with 45.68 watts on average (+15%) for the same task and 89.1 watts peak.
We also compared to the consumption of the Ryzen 9 6900HS, and the latter amounts to an average of 85.7 watts for a peak of 97 watts.
If we establish a performance / consumption ratio with our performance index and the consumption noted, the Ryzen 9 7940HS obtains an index of 4.05 points / watt against 3.43 points / watt for the Core i9-13900H. AMD’s processor is therefore 18% more efficient than its competitor. The generational gain is however very impressive since the Ryzen 9 6900HS is content with an efficiency of 1.7 points / watt.

With its Ryzen9 7940HS, AMD does not offer an exceptional performance gain with a small 10%, however, it is especially at the level of consumption that it is particularly sober. With such characteristics, the Ryzen 9 7940HS is the ideal ally for thin and high-performance laptops.
We will not offer you a complete test of the Blade 14 2023, since Razer France will not market it. It will therefore be necessary to turn to Asus, which has a slew of machines powered by this Ryzen 9 7940HS.
