Laayoune Consumer Price Index (CPI) Surges by 0.6% in July 2023

The consumer price index (CPI) in the city of Laayoune increased by 0.6% over the month of July, from 117.7 to 118.4. .

This increase is the result of a 1.2% increase in the food index and a stagnation of the non-food index, according to a note from the Regional Directorate of the High Commission for Planning (HCP) in Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra.

Thus, reports MAP, the index of the “Food products and non-alcoholic beverages” division increased by 1.3% between June and July 2023, notes the same source, specifying that this increase concerns in particular the prices of “Fruits”. (8.3%), “Fish and seafood” (3.3%), “Meat” (0.9%), “Mineral waters, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices” (0.4% ), “Oils and fats” (0.3%), and the prices of “Milk, cheese and eggs” (0.1%), once morest a decrease in the prices of “Vegetables” of 4.8%.

Compared to the same month of the previous year, the annual consumer price index for the city of Laâyoune increased by 6.7% during the month of July 2023. This increase results from an increase in the prices of products food by 13.2% and prices of non-food products by 1.8%.

The percentage change for non-food items decreased by 5.4% for “Transport” and recorded an increase of 8.8% for “Restaurants and hotels”.

The CPI is the instrument for measuring inflation. It contributes to the monitoring and analysis of the economic situation and constitutes an essential element for the implementation of financial policy and the indexing of contracts between the various socio-economic partners.
