Wednesday January 24 is International Women’s Sports Day! On this occasion, La Poste, a historic partner of arbitration in France, will highlight the women who practice it through a unique digital operation: “I am a woman, I am an arbitrator”. Meeting with Alexandra Maîtrein, Brand Director of the La Poste Group.
Bruno Cammalleri: What is the issue behind this operation?
Alexandra Mauraisin : La Poste has been a partner of referees for 17 years in 4 sports: football, handball, rugby, basketball. For 17 years we have supported the work carried out each season by the refereeing body, the sporting world needs referees and their lasting commitment. We work long term with our partners, federations, leagues and bodies related to arbitration. One of our major challenges is to respond to a need which is to give visibility to arbitration in order to truly retain referees. There is a real issue of loyalty when it comes to recruitment as well as an issue of feminization of arbitration. Recruitment is done among young people, in amateur circles. We must create vocations until the person becomes a referee or even an elite referee. For this we are going to take advantage of these 24 hours of women’s sport and this International Women’s Sports Day on January 24.
Bruno Cammalleri: What digital system will be put in place?
Alexandra Mauraisin : We are going to publish 100 testimonials from female referees from 4 sports (football, rugby, handball, basketball). They will explain to us their passion and their commitment. We were keen to highlight these 100 women. A total of 100 portraits of 1mn30 will be posted online on the Tous Arbitres website and on our social networks (Instagram, X and LinkedIn). January 24 is a very wonderful event, it must be an opportunity to highlight these women and their commitment.
Bruno Cammalleri: You are ultimately an extension of La Poste’s commitment to arbitration…
Alexandra Mauraisin : We have always supported and promoted arbitration. 2 years ago we published a study with the opinion research institute Odoxa regarding the skills and soft skills that referees develop on the pitch. But there aren’t many Stéphanie Frapparts… so we have to create vocations. Amateurs are passionate and they are not just referees. They work alongside and they can transfer these particular skills developed in the field into the business world: autonomy, rigor, decision-making, etc. These are clearly key assets.
