Since 1984, the Loire has flowed once a year in Chartres (Eure-et-Loir), in glasses. This is La Paulée des vins de Loire, a spring event created forty years ago by the Jallerat family, owner of a flagship hotel in the Centre-Val de Loire, the Hôtel du Grand Monarque. The principle of La Paulée is to invite the best of Loire winegrowers, from Muscadet (Loire-Atlantique) to Cotes Roannaises (Loire) for a large winegrowers’ market, under an Eiffel hall which welcomes no less than 5,000 visitors in one followingnoon. The Free Commune of Saint-Brice and the City of Chartres offer their hospitality and support to this great Bacchic festival around Loire wines, in the heart of Beauce.

Up to 500 bottles sold per stand in a few hours!

The tradition was respected on Sunday March 24, 2024 and the Touraine winegrowers present honored the Touraine wine region, once once more. There, alongside the great names of Anjou, Sancerre, Saumur, Savennières, Pouilly Fumé, we found worthy ambassadors of Touraine wines, duly hand-picked. Among which Damien and Coralie Delecheneau, Xavier Weiskopf, Laura David, Anthony and Coralie Rassin (Montlouis), Vincent Carême and Sébastien Brunet (vouvray), Philippe Boucard, Emmanuel Caslot (bourgueil), Isabelle Pangault (touraine), Sébastien David, Gérald Vallée (saint-nicolas-de-bourgueil) or, for Chinon, Nicolas Grobois and Jean Denys de Bonnaventure.

Proof that Touraine wines are popular in Beauceron lands, a tour of the stalls showed us that everyone had tasted and sold up to 500 bottles in a few hours!

The architects of this great celebration which puts Loire wines in the spotlight, Bertrand and Georges Jallerat, who exhume, for the occasion, the best bottles from their “Loire” cellar, unique in France.

Nearly 700 Loire wines on the Georges menu

The highlight of this day of tasting (and celebration) is a large sumptuous dinner at the Grand Monarque restaurant, Le Georges, whose wine list, one of the finest in French gastronomy, boasts of some 23 pages devoted to Loire wines – 396 whites and 330 reds – where all the Loire AOP and IGP are offered, from the land of Muscadet to Côtes-du-Forez… including Touraine, superbly represented. The prestigious dinner welcomed nearly 200 guests, winegrowers, national and international sommeliers, wine journalists and great chefs.

Among the many Touraine winegrowers invited to this major Loire wine market, Philippe and Stéphanie Boucard, from Bourgueil, are regulars of the event.

Vouvray and Bourgueil on the three-star dishes of chef Emmanuel Renaut

This year, a minister, Guillaume Kasbarian, responsible for housing and local elected official, even slipped among the guests. And at the helm of this gala dinner which is an exception every year, it was the maestro of the ovens Emmanuel Renaut, a three-star chef in the Michelin Guide at his restaurant Flocon de sel, in Megève (Haute-Savoie) who offered to delight all those beautiful world of its signature dishes.

With Vouvray and Bourgueil wines from the best barrels to enhance these exceptional dishes. Glory to the Loire!
