La Maison De l’Artisan Board of Directors Meeting: Achievements, Export Growth, and Strategic Partnerships

La Maison De l’Artisan (MDA) held its Board of Directors on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, under the chairmanship of Mrs. Fatim-Zahra Ammor, Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts and the Social and Solidarity Economy.

In her speech delivered at the opening of the work of the Board of Directors, Fatim-Zahra Ammor, welcomed the performance achieved by the sector for the first five months of 2023. Indeed, exports of Moroccan handicraft products totaled, at the end of May 2023, 514 MDH, an increase of + 18% compared to the same period of 2022, and 35% compared to 2019. In this sense, it is important to remember that these exports have doubled between 2016 and 2022 and reached a record of 1 billion dirhams in 2022.

“In 2022 and 2023, we targeted 14 international markets through offensive promotion and marketing actions which made it possible to sign strategic partnerships, to strengthen the notoriety of Morocco Handmade and to generate significant commercial impacts for artisans who have taken participate in these operations. Our objective in 2024 is to extend these offensives to new markets such as Spain, Japan and the United States. At the same time, we continue to make progress on solutions to the structural problems faced by local players. The pilot phases of the support programs have been completed and we will soon and effectively launch these programs which aim to significantly improve the competitiveness of the players. said the Minister.

Tarik Sadik, General Manager of the Maison de l’Artisan, presented the major achievements of the establishment during the first half of 2023. These achievements include the deployment of the strategic watch system, called Market Intelligence, as well as the establishment of the “Moroccan Handicrafts Export Barometer”. These initiatives aim to improve understanding of demand and markets, and identify key industry trends. The Council also examined the 3 support programs designed to improve the competitiveness of a large segment of craftsmen, namely the support program for exporters, the support program for aggregators and the program for centers of Excellency.

The members of the Board of Directors also took note of the promotion and business development efforts deployed, for the benefit of 226 businesses and craft cooperatives, as well as the strategic partnerships established with the Galeries Lafayette and El Corte Ingles groups. .

As part of the governance improvement process, the Board of Directors set up the Maison De l’Artisan Audit Committee and appointed its members. The latter will have significant added value in the management and monitoring of major projects carried out by the organization under supervision.
