La Maddalena, over a third of citizens without a family doctor: the ASL activates Ascot

As of today, there are only 4 family doctors left in La Maddalena, for a resident population of 10,753 people. The retirement of doctor Michele Demontis worsens an already difficult situation. At this point, in fact, about 4,000 Maddalena residents would be left without their trusted doctor, over a third of the population. It is true that there is a hospital with an emergency room, it is true that there is a medical guard, but the function of the family doctor remains irreplaceable.

The call for a new doctor, published in advance, went unfilled, informs the ASL of Olbia. Therefore, an Ascot service has been activated in La Maddalena, available to all patients on the island who have been left without a General Practitioner. «To this end, for the month of September, the Ascot service will be active in the Community House in Padule, from 9.30 to 13.00, on the following days: Wednesday 4, Friday 6, Tuesday 10, Thursday 12, Wednesday 18, Friday 20, Tuesday 24 and Thursday 26. Patients will have to provide the doctor on duty with any medical documentation certifying pathologies that require drugs or specific treatments.

To book a visit – the ASL informs – you must contact the number 0789 791296 from 8.00 to 9.00 and from 13.00 to 14.00. Only patients who have made a reservation will be able to be visited”.
