La Jornada – Venezuela shoots down “invading” plane from Mexico

Caracas Venezuela. The Bolivarian National Armed Forces of Venezuela (FANB) destroyed a plane used by drug trafficking that illegally entered the state of Zulia (west) from Mexico, the head of the Strategic Operational Command (Ceofanb), Domingo Hernández Lárez, reported this Thursday.

“FANB immobilizes and disables the invading plane on the ground from Cozumel-Mexico in the Catatumbo municipality of Zulia state, it is a twin-engine Gulfstream plane, white, registration V3-GRS, which was detected by Venezuelan radars entering the airspace national with the transponder turned off and without permission from the FIR (Flight Information Region) Maiquetía”, expressed Hernández Lárez through X​​​.

In this regard, he explained that the FANB activated the defense plan called the Western Bolivarian Shield to destroy the “hostile” aircraft.

The head of Ceofanb stated that the FANB has the necessary technology to react immediately to any unauthorized entry of aircraft.

“Venezuela is a territory of peace and we fight daily once morest the scourge of drug trafficking, terrorism and organized crime,” he said.

In 2023, the FANB destroyed more than 30 aircraft used for drug trafficking that illegally entered Venezuelan territory.

In the last 10 years, the Armed Forces neutralized 360 “invading” aircraft, according to Ceofanb.
