La Jornada – TEPJF orders Morena to modify the call for the 3rd National Congress

Mexico City. The Superior Chamber of the Electoral Court of the Judicial Power of the Federation (TEPJF) ordered the Morena party to modify the call for the third Ordinary National Congress with regard to the people who will be able to vote in the district congresses, which are held this weekend to elect their directors, so that they are only those who are affiliated or those who carry out their process in the voting centers.

In a public session, in which five of the seven magistrates participated, the sentence issued by the Specialized Regional Chamber was also confirmed by unanimous vote, which determined the existence of improper dissemination of propaganda, in support of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador during the mandate revocation process, by Morena and its national leader, Mario Delgado, and for which they were fined 33,677 pesos and 24,555 pesos, respectively.

Regarding the modification to the call for the National Congress of Morena – to be held on September 17 and 18 -, the project of the presiding magistrate Reyes Rodríguez, approved by a majority of votes, had as its origin the appeal of a militant who challenged a resolution by which the National Commission of Honesty and Justice (CNHJ) of the party declared unfounded and inoperative the grievances related to formal and substantive vices on the register for the celebration of the renewal process and the accreditation of militancy, among others.

In this regard, Judge Indalfer Infante, who was once morest the measure, considered that if the Morena call included as voters those who only have a registration form as a militant, even though that procedure has not yet been carried out, it is because “it accepts its responsibility in that it has not been able to carry out this registration, that is, it is not the fault of the citizens who have submitted their applications, who have prepared their format”, but of the party itself.

The TEPJF also partially revoked the determination issued by the CNHJ, in order to issue a new one in which compliance with the horizontal gender parity mandate will be analyzed, as well as the measures to guarantee access to management positions to members of the LGBTI+ community.

Regarding the sanction once morest Morena and Mario Delgado, the Superior Chamber, at the proposal of Judge Felipe de la Mata, determined that the image of President López Obrador was promoted with the aim of favoring him in the revocation process.
