“Democracy won, we already have a general secretary. There is no doubt, it was won with the vote of all oil workers through a free, direct and secret vote,” he said.
Aldana, who for more than two decades has managed the millionaire finances of the STPRM, succeeds the leadership of Carlos Romero Deschamps, who headed the guild for 26 years. Both were linked to the Pemexgate case, which involved a diversion of millions of resources from the guild to the presidential candidacy of PRI Francisco Labastida in 2000.
In total, 72,000 workers registered on the Sirvolab electronic platform with the right to exercise electronic voting, and according to the STPRM, more than 60,000 voted.
