La Jornada – Minister Vargas endorses the eligibility of Américo Villarreal in Tamaulipas

Mexico City. In a new draft resolution of the Tamaulipas election, the rapporteur magistrate, José Luis Vargas, preserved the meaning of the previous document, to endorse the victory of Américo Villarreal, and now confirms the eligibility of the elected governor.

The case will be resolved today, Wednesday, definitively, in the Superior Chamber of the Electoral Court of the Judicial Power of the Federation, during an extraordinary session convened for five in the followingnoon.

The PAN contested the election in order for it to be annulled; He also argues that the politician lost his eligibility by requesting his reinstatement as a senator, a request that was withdrawn a few hours ago.

However, the project to be analyzed by the Plenary of the Superior Chamber indicates that this reincorporation occurred outside the stages of the electoral process and does not influence the results of the contest.

The rapporteur also rejects that the aforementioned incorporation into the Senate puts pressure on the independence of the TEPJF, whose magistrates are elected, in turn, by the full Senate.

Therefore, he concludes that the aforementioned reincorporation to legislative activities does not prevent him from assuming the position of Governor of Tamaulipas.
