Students of the Higher School of Medicine (ESM), of the National Polytechnic Institute, held an assembly yesterday in which they decided the toma of the campus management, in addition to presenting various academic demands, among which the reopening of all clinical practice sites stands out.
Gabriel Orozco, a student studying medicine and midwifery, explained in an interview that one of the main demands of ESM students is that the so-called “clinical fields” – that is, the hospitals where students in their last semesters carry out internships – are reopened, since some of them have closed, especially since the start of the covid-19 pandemic.
According to the student, some of the nearly 20 fields that were normally available were cancelled, without the students knowing exactly why, while in others there are no conditions for young people to carry out their internships, since there are no rooms where they can be received.
After the completion of the assembly, the management of the campus was power plug “peacefully” by some members of the student committee, while the head of the school, Salvador Lara Franco, left the building, without academic activities having been suspended so far.
So far, three IPN schools are without classes indefinitely; in two there were strikes of 24 or 48 hours and in four more there will be assemblies to decide if the schools are taken or some other action is taken.
