From Vienna to Santa Fe, from Dublin to Villa Mercedes, from Berlin to Tucumán: La Delio Valdez turns fifteen and is celebrating this with a tour. For months they moved from one stage to another, unleashing a party that never disappoints, the Cumbion Party.

And omnipresence means they’ll stop by, too. This time, the Cumbion party will take place on October 19th at the Ruca Che Stadium in Neuquen, a few weeks after Montevideo and a few days before Salta.

La Delio Valdez is touring Europe throughout July, taking her cumbia parties to Switzerland, Germany, Ireland, France, Spain and Portugal. They will resume sailing around the country at the end of August, with a stopover in Uruguay. This route will once again take them to the Alto Valley, where their shows are always sold out wherever they perform.

Great performer: Martín Bossi arrives in Neuquen with his immortal “Bosi Live Comedy”

“It’s wonderful to be back in Lucca Che,” says sincerely Ivonne Guzmán, the charismatic and talented singer of La Delio Valdez, a unique cooperative of musical artists. “It’s a beautiful venue for us to perform, and obviously we’re looking forward to the usual gatherings – that is, with a few new spices,” he warned.

Guzmán, a Colombian originally from Bogotá but with an artistic career that is both broad and deep in Argentina, discussed the band’s fifteenth anniversary celebrations in a warm and enjoyable phone conversation with Rio Negro events, their unique approach to collaboration, and the future of music.

“The 15th year allows us to look back, to look back and realize what we have done in these years, work, grow, strive and see the fruits of it. Obviously, the reunion with the people of Neuquén means a lot to us. Always very special. We always feel so warmly welcomed by the people of Neuquén.

“On the specific side of the show, we’ll be showcasing some new music that’s coming out. We’re working on new music, so there will definitely be some previews in the show,” he predicts.

So far, La Delio Valdez has released five singles over the years: the feats. “Andei Só”, a collaboration with Francisco, the Man; “Angel of Love”, with Rafaga; “Know where to go”, a fantastic collaboration on Nonpalidece’s latest album; and most recently “Come Together with me”, with Anaconda Group Live performance; and first preview of the new album “Pájaro y Demonio”.

This new album by La Delio Valdez, which has no release date yet, will be the successor to “El tiempo y la serenata” (2021) and its live version “La gira and”, written and produced during quarantine. 2023).

“There is something magical”

Ivonne Guzmán, a former member of Bandana and Actitud María Marta, joined La Delio Valdez in 2015, replacing Cipoleña Gladys “Negra” Sarabia. After nearly a decade of experience with Cumbion, the singer looks back and sees a lot of hard work, a lot of dedication and is proud to be a part of it. “This is an unusual project,” he commented. “To be an independent cooperative, an orchestra of many people pushing forward together and on the same side, to be a human community taking care of human beings and most importantly to say, wow! We’ve worked! We’ve paid A lot of effort! We’ve been to Neuquen many times, playing in smaller places, and like you can get stuck when you first start traveling without a budget, the enthusiasm for the show has not diminished at all. The passion for music, being on stage, and meeting people is still intact, so now, as I reflect out loud, I’m also grateful, and increasingly grateful, for the people who have been with us all these years.

La Delio is a cumbia orchestra and a working cooperative, perhaps the only possible way for such a structure to exist. This is the only way for the band to survive. “If it’s hard to sign a soloist, imagine an orchestra,” says Yvonne. “We chose the orchestra to always tour. We went to Europe, we all went.

Whenever La Delio comes, it comes many times and to different places, so it’s always packed. Why does La Delio serve the public? “I think we as Latin Americans have to learn from some of the cumbia tradition, which in itself brings people together. In addition to Latin America as a whole, Argentina also has a cumbia tradition that runs throughout the country. Because we are young artists, we add our own sauce to the same tradition,” reflects Yvonne.

“I think it might bring something new because we’re bringing cumbia music, but also because we’re influenced by all cumbia music and maybe some different Latin genres like chaya, Salsa and sometimes even some folklore, like chamame, for example, we played with Chango Spasiuk and then there are some magical things that people never know about it. Where it comes from and no idea why it happens, but it happens and the fact is that there is a point that is unexplainable and I don’t know if I want to know how to explain it. There is something magical that happens and we have to be grateful for it. And take advantage of it, because the fact is it gives us the opportunity to work on this project and work on this beautiful project.

La Delio Valdez’s final studio album, El Tiempo y la Serenata, was, like many things at the time, produced remotely and virtually in quarantine during the pandemic. “It was wonderful,” Yvonne said of those days. “Look, we’re so grateful that we have this space to express ourselves and kind of break free from that confinement a little bit, because what we’re going through as a society is really, really hard. To be that little window of fresh air, you know? When we were making the album , it was a moment of encounter, even though it was virtual because the album was created virtually, but our minds were busy and our hearts were there and it just saved us.

Regarding the new album, Ivonne confirmed that the assembly process was completely different from the previous album, and not just because that album was virtual. “This will be our third album of our own songs, so that also makes it like a bet, it’s our recommitment to the genre, and I love it, I love what’s being played, and I can Tell you what? “They’re such wild songs,” he enthuses.

The novelty of this work lies in the way the songs appear. “Before this album it was very much in the orchestra and arranged in the orchestra, this year we tried a different approach: we broke into groups and each group had to compose. It was very special, Very good too.

Just like the school assignments they brought home, Yvonne worked with clarinetist Santiago Moldova, trumpeter Pablo Reyna and percussionist Sebastian Aguero. The assembly of the group is random, everyone puts their model together and then they collect everything and mix it up. “We created a lot more content than we imagined. A lot of songs!” Yvonne admits with a laugh. “I think they’re going to really enjoy it.”
