La Cubana has 20,000 visitors

The exhibition La Cubana 40 + 1 years: a journey out of nowhere in 2021, dedicated to the Catalan theater company, closes its doors today at the Miramar-Sitges Cultural Center after welcoming around 20,000 visitors during the six months which has lasted.

The exhibition, promoted by the Department of Culture of the City of Sitges and La Cubana, opened on June 17 to celebrate the company’s history and has been marked by the pandemic. However, its success has allowed it to be extended twice to meet public demand.

“We are very pleased with the response from the public, especially the local public, as they have been massively involved in the commemoration and celebration of these 41 years of the theater company that brings Sitges as an essential part of its DNA” , said yesterday the Councilor for Culture of Sitges, Xavier Salmerón.

La Cubana 40 + 1 years: a journey from nothing to 2021 has been the main bet of the 2021 edition of La Pregonera, the stable program of performing arts, exhibitions and music coordinated by the Department of Culture.

The director of La Cubana, Jordi Milà, is pleased with the response to the exhibition throughout Spain and that the proposal for this initiative came from young people who had not yet been born in 1980, when La Cubana was born. “It has been a beautiful way to celebrate these 40 years +1 of the Cubana and especially to have done so in Sitges; Everyone knows that without Sitges, La Cubana would not exist “, he added.

The exhibition covers the history of the company through endearing and curious objects that it has used in its productions, such as sets, costumes, wigs, hats, glasses, posters, press clippings, photographs and awards, among others.

Through this experiential and immersive proposal, the audience delves into the particular style of a theater group that has brought its talent to the stages of Spain to more than five million spectators.

La Cubana bids farewell to the exhibition, but is focused on the premiere on February 2 of the play Adiós Arturo at the Teatre Coliseum in Barcelona to end the tour that began in May 2018 and which has seen more than 300,000 spectators.
