MAIF firmly believes that sport is an excellent way for everyone to develop new behaviors, so it launched the “Planet of Sport” campaign at the end of 2019 to inspire and collectively engage sport stakeholders to support protecting the planet. As part of this movement, MAIF will organize a rope party next September in conjunction with the town of Saint-Gervais, composed of about 10 athletes with outstanding records: “la Cordée Sport Planète”. After a busy summer, these great champions will set themselves a final challenge, both sporting and social: to climb Mont Blanc to help raise awareness of ecological issues on the planet, especially in mountainous areas.
After a summer of involvement in French sport, they will set off to attack the legendary mountain of Mont Blanc in the Alps on September 26 and 27: ten of the biggest names in French sport will take part in the Cordée Sport Planète, organized by MAIF in partnership with Saint-Géné Initiated and organized jointly by the town of Ervai, the aim is to raise awareness of the ecological problems facing the planet, promote biodiversity and encourage as many people as possible to adopt good behavior in the mountains.
Under the guidance of Saint-Gervais Guides and led by regional snowboard Olympic deputy champion Chloé Trespeuch, these athletes will once again rely on their strong physical and mental qualities to achieve success. Over these two days, they will evolve on rocky and limestone terrain that is strongly affected by global warming, and they will be able to measure its consequences with their own eyes. This ascent depends on climatic conditions and requires humility, commitment, determination and solidarity, values that all these champions share in their sporting careers and in their daily lives.
The team is part of MAIF’s ongoing campaign to engage the sporting community in actively contributing to a more liveable planet. Earlier this year, the “Captains Sport Planète” group of seven outstanding champions had already taken part in an awareness-raising initiative, launching a tree planting campaign at the National Golf Course. These seven champions came to Saint-Gervais for this Cordée Sport Planète and eager to join them in the world of sport, they wanted to invite other great French athletes to join them in this extraordinary adventure. This is a very meaningful approach for these high-level athletes who don’t necessarily feel it’s legitimate to talk about ecology, but whose prescription power is powerful because of their desire to embrace the subject and make gains in reducing their carbon footprint. progress.
For its part, Saint-Gervais is a pioneer city in environmental protection, notably through the Order for the Protection of the Natural Habitat of Mont Blanc, signed on 1 October 2020. The Ecosystem is an iconic area that has been neglected for too long. By supporting the Cordée Sport Planète project launched by MAIF, Saint-Gervais once again shows that high-level sports activities and respect for the environment can be reconciled.
