La Cooperativa on High Alert: Fraying Utility Poles Threaten to Leave Hundreds in the Dark

Since last weekend, residents of Cooperativa and Palmira streets, in the La Cooperativa sector of Maracay, recorded an electrical failure that left them without service for several hours.

Despite service having been restored yesterday, around 20 houses have constant failures and “sags”, which keeps residents in anxiety.

María Sánchez, a resident of the area, stated that there are constant “power outages” in some of the houses, “which puts the appliances that suffer from this situation at risk.”

He highlighted that, apparently there is a fault in one of the transformers and “they only put warm water cloths on it and the root problem is not solved.”

Another neighbor, who preferred not to identify himself, reported that Corpoelec workers requested $40 per house to solve the problem permanently, which they consider an outrage, since they cancel the service.

He commented that there are two poles that are in danger of giving way, so they had to prop up one of them so that it would not collapse. “The line is hanging irregularly and when tall vehicles pass by, they carry away the tangle of cables, which threatens to bring the pole to the ground.”

The neighbors reported that hours after having restored the electricity, the community was left in darkness again, waiting for the company’s technicians to resolve the situation.
