La Chaux-de-Fonds (NE): He taunts justice to avoid the fine and ends up in the hole

A 41-year-old painter who had broken the window of a delivery vehicle to steal its contents did not choose the right strategy before the Neuchâtel prosecutor. Le Chaux-de-Fonnnier, who had seized a toolbox and six suitcases of tools for a value of around 4360 francs, was sentenced to one month in prison.

A repeat offender, he was either too transparent or too arrogant with the Public Prosecutor’s Office by asserting that he “worked voluntarily at 50% knowing that a seizure on his low income was impossible and that therefore he was not serving him nothing to work more”.

“Since the defendant is clearly unable to pay a monetary penalty, a custodial sentence will therefore be imposed instead,” reads the penal order addressed to him. Sentenced to 30 days in prison for his theft, the forties will also have to pay the costs of the case set at 1578.-
