La Chaux-de-Fonds Citizen Card: Enhancing Social Integration with L’Abeille App

2024-04-09 15:09:00

Better integrate asylum seekers into life in La Chaux-de-Fonds. This is the main objective of the new citizen card of the Watchmaking Metropolis. A pilot project is currently being tested there. Implemented since March 2024 by the Social Integration and Cohesion Service, the card takes the form of an additional functionality on the local currency application “L’Abeille”. Each person who subscribes to it will be able to benefit from several advantages. The application allows you to store your membership cards at the library and the games library, but also offers monthly free entry vouchers to various cultural and sporting infrastructures in the city. Beneficiaries also receive informative notifications regarding events taking place in town.

An application open to all

Although the main target of this service is migrants and asylum seekers, the card is aimed at all Chaux-de-Fonniers. “We did not want to create a stigmatizing application for this part of the population,” explains Sandrine Keriakos Bugada, delegate for integration and social cohesion.

A complete service

In order to help beneficiaries install the application and understand how it works, hotlines are organized in the premises of the Integration and Social Cohesion Department, located at the Tour Espacité. We went there, where Tatiana, a Ukrainian refugee, was creating her citizen card. Report below:

For user needs, the application is translatable into around fifteen languages. The pilot phase of this project will end in March 2025. Then, the University of Neuchâtel will undertake a study to evaluate the use of this citizen card. In the future, the map may be subject to additional developments. “We would like to be able to integrate more services in the future,” specifies Sandrine Keriakos Bugada. “For example a banking system, a judicial system, or even a housing system.” /crb
