La Cenozo denounces a “deplorable situation” and an obstacle to investigative journalism.
« We clearly see an attempt to muzzle the work that these newspapers do on a daily basis, explains David Dembélé, its chairman of the board of directors, joined by Gaelle Laleix of the Africa editorial staff. These two newspapers, they worked on subjects that nobody dared to treat. And, condemning this, we demand the introduction of relief measures that will be so that journalists can continue to carry out their work. Do you know in what context newspapers work, and especially newspapers that are dedicated to investigation? Newspapers live off advertisements, and for example, l’Événement au Niger has had no for years. We make sure the taps are turned off, so what should we do? And it is in this situation that the newspaper has survived for years. It worries us: when it starts like this, no one knows where it will end. »
