Universidad Austral, through its Faculties of Law and Biomedical Sciences, was positioned in the 2022 edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject as the number 1 privately managed University in the country in the teaching of Law and Medicine.
Both faculties consolidate their position for the fourth year, being the first Argentine private university to appear in this area of the QS World Ranking, one of the most prestigious in the academic world.
In this new edition of the ranking by areas of knowledge and teaching, the entry of the Austral University in the Business and Management discipline stands out, also placing it in the first place among the country’s private management study houses. This achievement reflects the strength of interdisciplinarity in the institution and the important synergy generated between the Faculty of Business Sciences (at its headquarters in Pilar and Rosario) and the IAE Business School, its business school.
Four years of solidity
The Universidad Austral Law School ranked among the best 151-200 in the world, according to the QS by Subject Ranking, positioning itself as the first privately managed School, and second in the country following the University of Buenos Aires.
In this way, it advanced 50 positions from the 2021 Ranking, in which it was in the #201-250 segment, and 100 positions from the 2020 Ranking, in which it was in the #251-300 group. This year the most outstanding qualifications were obtained in Academic Reputation and Employer Reputation.
“We are a young faculty: last year we celebrated our 25th anniversary, and from day one we have been constantly growing. Being confirmed in this world ranking for the fourth consecutive year as the best private law school in the country is a source of pride, which reflects all the work and effort that those of us who are part of this house of studies carry out. And, at the same time, it renews our commitment to improve ourselves by maintaining the academic excellence and human quality that characterize us”, said the dean of the Faculty of Law, Manuel García-Mansilla.
Fernando Toller, director of the Austral University Law School, pointed out that “some characteristics of Austral Law have been recognized once more by the academic and professional world, such as the intensive use of the case method, the practical study and the focus on learning by doing, promoting critical and creative thinking in each student. These features of the training provided are valued positively among teachers and employers. The successful implementation and opening of the specific undergraduate or postgraduate career with hundreds of subjects from other areas has been very well received among students, while it has shown excellent results”.
On the other hand, from the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences (FCB), the director of the Medicine career, Dr. Ángel Centeno, states that this recognition in the Medicine discipline marks the way forward. The top ratings for the FCB were for Employer Reputation and Citations per paper.
Dr. Centeno considers that “the rankings help us to reflect on how to achieve the best training for our students and the development of our university, and they stimulate us to improve in the achievement of our objectives. We are happy with the external recognition, which encourages us to persevere on the chosen path even more”.
An interdisciplinary achievement
The latest edition of the QS by Subject Ranking marked the brand new entry of Austral into the Business and Management discipline. Julio Durand, Academic Secretary of the UA, affirms that this achievement is mainly due to the collaboration and interdisciplinarity offered by the university: “Our incorporation in the business and management area reflects the leadership of the university for many years thanks to the educational proposals offered by the IAE Business School, in MBA and executive training; together with the Faculty of Business Sciences in Pilar and Rosario, highlighting training in Agribusiness, among other specialties”.
At the same time, Durand explained that Austral’s participation in the ranking by Subject -or disciplines- has been one of the lines of work promoted by the institution. “It allows to visualize in a more detailed way the positioning and recognition of our educational proposal by specific audiences, who come into contact with the academic units and their different careers”, she details.
This ranking is an annual study by Quacquarelli Symonds, a specialist in global analysis of education. The annual edition by Subject evaluates 1,452 institutions from 51 disciplines or subject areas, and is a complement to other QS rankings such as the World University, Latin America and QS Graduate Employability Rankings.
“The consolidation of the Universidad Austral in the pertinent areas of this ranking as the best located privately managed Argentine university is consistent with its presence in the various rankings, in which it also occupies relevant positions, for example, it stands out as the private university Argentina number 1 in the last QS Latin America”, concluded Durand.
