Kylian Mbappe of Paris Saint-Germain (France) dismissed rumors surrounding him regarding a transfer to Real Madrid (Spain). Mbappe strongly denied that he had any discussions with any club.

According to the British media Guardian on the morning of the 9th (Korean time), Mbappe denied reports that he had agreed to a transfer to Real Madrid through a statement. Mbappe said, “Nothing has been agreed on regarding the future. He said, “We haven’t even started discussions regarding the transfer,” and “there have been no discussions with other clubs.” Rumors of Mbappe’s transfer to Real Madrid have continued for the past few years, and were especially fueled in January when Mbappe was given the authority to freely negotiate transfers with other clubs.

Mbappe transferred from AS Monaco (France) to Paris Saint-Germain on loan in 2017, and made a permanent transfer the following year, leaving behind a transfer fee of 180 million euros (approximately 259.8 billion won), the second-highest of all time. Mbappe then signed a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain in 2022 until June 2024, adding a one-year contract extension option, but he announced last year that he would not take advantage of this, sparking speculation of a move to Real Madrid. In European soccer, according to the ‘Bosman Rule’, pre-joint negotiations with other clubs are possible when there are six months or less left on the contract.

Many big European clubs are paying attention to Mbappe as he will be released as a free agent in six months. Several English Premier League clubs are also mentioned, and Liverpool’s name is especially mentioned. However, recruiting Mbappe is not easy. According to ESPN, in order to sign Mbappe, a weekly salary of around 650,000 euros (938 million won) must be covered, and although there is no transfer fee, a huge contract deposit is required. Mbappe will earn 80 million euros (115.5 billion won) if he uses the one-year contract extension option with Paris Saint-Germain. Therefore, the down payment is expected to be more than that.
