Kyiv’s mayor believes a referendum may be necessary to stop the war

– No matter what Zelenskyi does, the president risks committing political suicide, says Klitschko in an interview with the Italian Corriere della Sera.

He believes Zelenskyj probably cannot get a peace agreement in place without having the people behind him. Klitschko, who is considered a rival of the president, points, among other things, to the dilemma Zelenskyj faces in the coming months: continue the war with more Ukrainians killed and more destruction, or consider a compromise with Russia.

– What kind of pressure will come from the US if Trump wins, Klitschko asks himself.

The Republican presidential candidate in the United States, Donald Trump, has promised that he will bring a quick end to the war in Ukraine if he wins the election in November. He has never explained how this will happen, except that there will be a solution at the negotiating table, and that, according to the American media, he wants Ukraine to give up territory.

Klitschko is rumored to want Zelenskyi’s job, but believes it would be unwise to hold elections in the current situation, even though Ukraine is scheduled to hold presidential elections in 2024.

– Just so it’s clear, I’ve always had a good relationship with him, it’s he who has a bad relationship with me.
