Kyiv: Winter storms in Ukraine kill 12, leave 800 settlements without electricity

On Monday, hurricane-force winds and snow battered southern Ukraine, which has already been hit hard by Russia’s full-scale invasion.

Strong winds are also raging in Moscow-occupied territories of Ukraine and southern Russia.

“Twelve people died due to weather conditions,” said Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenka.

Since Tuesday, that number has increased by one person. Another 23 people were injured, the minister added.

According to officials, although the adverse weather conditions have subsided, hundreds of villages are still without electricity.

Currently, intensive repair work is underway in the southern regions of Ukraine. Kyiv said that in the event of a power outage, Ukraine imports it from its three western neighbors.
